Meteorologist's couldn't figure out if this storm was going to be rain or snow. Thankfully, It was snow, 30cm of snow to be exact. And after 78cm of snow a few days prior, I had a feeling this would be an all-time day with a blue sky forecasted. Weekday's at Whistler don't look much different than weekends anymore and it was proper pow panic at Whistler Blackcomb. The gondola was delayed for an hour and a half, but once I got on the hill, Blackcomb delivered the best day to date. It felt so good to ski bluebird blower conditions in a few of my favourite zones on the mountain. Spanky's is the best place on earth and it felt amazing to be home. Mt. Baker Ski Area is one of the most legendary mountains in the ski & snowboard world. It's located in Washington, USA and has managed to hold on to the old-school vibe and charm that almost every other ski resort is lacking these days. It's home to some of the world's best snowboarders and has some of the wildest natural terrain and bckcountry riding I've ever laid eyes on. Baker is well known for being the snow captial of America. It might not be the lightest and driest pow, but they get a boatload of snow. In 1998-99 season they set a world record for the most snowfall 1,140 inches. Today I finally ventured South into America to experience the legendary Mt. Baker snow and terrain for myself. Although it was wet, I think it was the perfect spot to dip my toes into the world of skiing in the USA. Huge shoutout to the awesome locals who generously skied me around and made sure I didn't get into too much trouble during my first visit. I'm already dreaming of coming back on a much colder pow day to get the full Baker experience. There are so many sick lines and backcountry zones to unlock here. Stay Spicy! Whistler Blackcomb suffered a dry spell while I was away... People started wondering if we were about to see a repeat of last years sad snow season? I guess my thick head of hair has some sort of snow magnetic force because Whistler got absolutely buried this weekend (Dec 14-15). I spent Saturday soaking wet and all smiles skiing the storm with Laura and toughed out the lines to get some absolutely amazingly deep alpine turns on Harmony and Peak chair on Sunday. The stoke was high, the snow was stupendous and the lift lines were spectacular. I think it's safe to say the snow base is doing okay, for now ;). Also I sincerely apologize for the lack of sauce sipping in this video. It was snowing so hard I got scramble brain two days in a row. At least I didn't forget my skis. Hopefully the Henchman's pocket risotto made up for it. I am still awaiting a restock of liquid courage and neck gaiters and I'll be sure to let ya know first when the website is firing once again. Rogers Pass in Glacier National Park, BC is one of the most amazing ski areas on earth. Today we took advantage of a good ole' inversion and went for a ski adventure on the Little Sifton Traverse. It wasn’t so “little” it turned out to be one of the longest ski runs I’d ever done in my life. The entire journey through the pow was around 11km. From the beautiful high alpine climbing, to the pillow filled descent. It was an insanely amazing day. Also, the 30 minutes of bushwhacking really added to the length of the ski out. It counts as pow skiing if you didn't take your skis off? Right? The light was a little flat on the ski down, but I decided to keep the skiing part pretty raw so you could see how fun, adventurous and hilarious the ride out was. Thanks for tuning in folks.
